Amidst the elaborate - first happy birthday preparations - my folks decide to whisk me off to India – Ahmedabad. I was given a twenty four hour notice and my ticket was practically booked right before checking in!
It was a little over midnight when we landed at Ahmedabad Airport. With the current swine flu scare, the health authority people at the airport wanted to examine everyone – I was asked to open my mouth, which I readily obliged. On our way home, during the ride in the car, I was amazed by the sound of honking. It was fun to keep looking around at all those cars scooters bikes making all that noise!!! Of course sleep was not even a thought that crossed my mind that night. I was so excited meeting everybody.
I meet both set of my grandparents, my bua my mama mami & my cousin zehaan. I loved all the attention bestowed upon me. I was carried around all the time, and my one squeal was enough to shake every one up (so much better than Singapore, where my mom’s beginning to ignore all my tantrums)
My first trip to India was quite an incredible experience, almost overwhelming in every way that you can imagine: sights, sounds, smells, cows on the road and even emotions that run wild when everything around you is so different from what you are used to. Ahmedabad was quite an interesting city, filled with much color, culture, and, unfortunately, air pollution . But well Manoj Kumar loves Bharat and so do we!!!
